special events: smei's 8th annual statewide simple picnic! Spend a day in the beautiful Maryland mountains... then join us for a potluck and simple conversation! We've held picnics in Bethesda, Annapolis, Greenbelt, and Baltimore. This year we'll head to a different part of the state, where several discussion circles formed in the past year.
When: Sunday, June 14, 2009, 2pm-6pm Where: Washington Monument State Park (Appalachian Trail), at the top of South Mountain, between Middletown and Boonsboro on Alternate 40 (border of Frederick and Washington counties). It's only 1 hour away from Bethesda, and 1 hour 10 minutes away from downtown Baltimore and from Greenbelt. Carpool with friends or family and make it an occasion! We'll be meeting, rain or shine, at the Fort Necessity Shelter (wheelchair accessible). Directions below (Google Maps). Special for Children Ages 3-8: Gumption the [green] Dragon will visit at 3 pm! Car Parking Fee: $3 for MD license plates, $4 for others. Directions: (heading west on I-70, take exit 49 toward Middletown. Head straight for about 7 miles on Alternate 40, enjoying the coutryside -- don't miss the cows pasturing in the fields.
